FAQs
How should I prepare for treatment?
To prepare for your treatment, it's best to eat a light meal 1-2 hours beforehand, wear loose, comfortable clothing, and stay hydrated. Avoid caffeine or alcohol, and try to arrive relaxed and open to the healing process. Please avoid wearing excessive makeup, lotions, oils, and scents.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture pins are just a little thicker than a human hair. They are fine, filiform, single use stainless steel and nothing at all like having a shot or bloodwork. A prick sensation may be felt upon insertion and possibly a deeper sensation that is unique to the individual, but most report acupuncture being a very relaxing experience.
What should I expect during treatment?
If it is your first time, you will meet with your practitioner to discuss your reasons for seeking treatment as well as further questioning to help the practitioner get a wholistic picture on any contributing factors to any symptoms you may be experiencing. Then you will receive the scheduled treatment that most find very relaxing.
What should I expect after treatment?
After treatment, you might feel relaxed, balanced, and energized. Some people experience a temporary increase in energy or a sense of deep calm. It's also common to feel tired as your body adjusts. Any symptoms being treated may feel better right away or temporarily exacerbated in the healing process. Drink plenty of water and follow any specific aftercare advice given to you.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments you need can vary depending on your individual condition and health goals. Generally, a course of treatment may range from a few sessions to several weeks and typically with sessions fairly close together initially as treatments build on each other. Your practitioner will assess your progress and recommend a plan tailored to your needs.
Is it covered?
Generally acupuncture is covered by most extended health care plans but the amount of treatment covered varies among plans. Please check with your plan to ensure sufficient coverage. Direct billing is possible with most providers. MSP may reimburse a small portion of $23 to those that qualify.
